Fast & Easy Crochet Market Tote Bag

Please forgive me, this is my first time writing a crochet pattern, and I am usually very bad at reading them much less writing them on my own.  I'll try to explain as best I can.

This tote works up very fast (took me about an hour), looks nice, and stretches to fit just about anything from books to produce.

The pattern involves making a chain and using 3 rows of DC to create an oval shaped base with increases at the ends.  The sides are made with a DC+chain 1 pattern.  The top is reinforced with 2 rows of DC.  The straps are CH, DC, and SS.

Materials used:
2 skeins of 100gr chunky yarn
size 8 crochet hook

Abbreviations:
CH=Chain
DC=Double Crochet
SS = slip stitch

Bag Pattern:

CH 20

Row 1: CH3 into 3rd stitch from the hook, DC 5 more times in the same stitch.  DC until the, make 6 DC in the starting chain.  Continue DCing around to form an oval.  Join with a SS.

Row 2: CH 3, DC around, making 2 increases (2 DC in the same stitch) in the middle of the 6DC clusters on the ends of the oval, SS to join

Row 3: Repeat row 2

Row 4: CH 4, skip 1 stitch, DC, CH1, repeat all the way around, SS in the 3rd chain to join

Row 5: SS into the chain 1 space (the gap created by the stitches), then repeat row 4.

Rows 6-11: Repeat row 5 until your bag is the desired length.  You can add more rows to make a bigger bag.

Row 12: CH3, make 1 DC into the chain space and 1 DC into the top of the previous DC.  Repeat all the way around, SS to join.

Row 13: CH3, DC all the way around.

Handles:

Ch 34, skip 12 stitches, SS to join.  SS into next stitch, DC back across, SS to join. SS back across the handle (I like to do this to strengthen it), SS to join.

You can adjust the length, width, and number of stitches between to make it the desired length.

Sorry again, I'm a complete novice at this and it was harder to write out than I thought it would be, but I hope you get the main idea at least.  Have fun and happy crocheting.  :-)
